1929 - Antonio Velasquez' first homegrown cartoon, "Kenkoy"
1934 - Tony Velasquez' "Album Ng Kabalbalan ni Kenkoy" ,1934.

By 1986 the komiks industry produced 47 titles-excluding religious or educational works, 24 other titles whose futures were then in doubt because of an anti-pornography drive, and newspaper and magazine cartoons and illustrated stories (Del Mundo, Jr., 1986). With a weekly
circulation by 1986 of around 2.5 to 3 million, the regular titles enjoyed a readership of
15,000,000 to 18,000,000 people, "about one-third" the Philippine population (Ibid., p. 179).
